The Icons of Basketball tribute recognizes pioneers of women’s basketball whose excellence, leadership, and influence have shaped the trajectory of women’s basketball and inspired generations beyond the game.

THE CURATOR

Robert E. Hansen is a Harlem-born, Jersey-raised artist based in Los Angeles. A School of Visual Arts graduate, he spent 16 years in visual merchandising with Nordstrom, Macy’s Herald Square, and Hickey Freeman

before returning to his artistic roots.

His work has been showcased by Bentley USA, Audi USA, at New York and Chicago Fashion Week, and he has been commissioned by IKEA and the Pan African Film & Arts Festival. His art has also been featured on Good Day LA,

Scripps News, and in The Baltimore Times.

Today, Robert is known for merging fine art with immersive technology. Using his trade secret process, he transforms traditional portraiture into interactive storytelling experiences, making him a sought-after partner for brands and institutions exploring the future of art and engagement.

This series is not an award, but a permanent artistic acknowledgment of the architects of the sport.

Our Story

EmpowerHER, an initiative of the Better Planet Foundation, is a program dedicated to uplifting and empowering women and girls through mentorship, wellness, and community engagement. The initiative creates inclusive spaces where participants from all backgrounds feel seen, heard, and valued, while developing the confidence and resilience needed to lead and thrive. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship opportunities, and holistic programming, EmpowerHER encourages young women to discover their inner strength, embrace healthy lifestyles, and step boldly into their futures.

In addition, the James Jordan - Boys and Girls Clubs will receive curated art prints for placement across their LA locations, bringing visibility, inspiration, and cultural storytelling into community spaces. This initiative connects legacy and impact, honoring those who built the game while investing in environments that nurture the next generation.
